If life has no meaning and there is nothing afterwards, then suicide is a natural way out when life becomes too burdensome.
But that notion is only possible in a “secular worldview” says Dr. D. James Kennedy. “Secularism” comes from saeculum, the Latin for “time.” It means time considered only in this world with no view of God or eternity. It is like a smoked dome being placed over the city of man where people are not able to see up to God or out to a future life.

Today the secular mind-set has blinded people to eternal and divine considerations. But God has made it very clear, “Thou shalt not kill. [Thou shalt not commit murder].” We are not to commit murder of our neighbor, our brother, our mother or father, or of ourselves.

Interestingly, those who argue for the right to commit suicide base it on the same argument as the infamous Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade. They claim that each person should have autonomous control of his or her own body. But the Christian has been bought with a price. “Know ye not . . . ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price” (I Corinthians 6:19, 20).

Every life is a gift. As Dr. Kennedy says in this full-length sermon, “It is a divine gift given unto you by God. It is sacred and inviolable and it is not to be taken and flung back into the face of God thanklessly.” God is in the life, not the death business. “He wants our full and enthusiastic participation.”
