Description

Does the Bible teach socialism, the system whereby the government either owns the means of production or controls it along with the systems of distribution? Some in the church claim that socialism is taught in the Bible, that the early Church practiced it, and that it should be adopted as government policy in our country today.

As Dr. Kennedy show in this full-length sermon, not only does the Bible not teach socialism, the section of scripture often used to claim it does, Acts 5:3-4, is antithetical to socialism. This passage of Scripture affirms private property and demonstrates the principle of personal private control over distribution of one’s own property, without coercion. And when the money from the sale of the property was voluntarily given away, it was given to the leaders of the church, not the government.

Government is not a producer, nor can it be one. It is a taker, a taxer, and a spender. Every dollar it spends is a dollar the government must take from workers and earners and investors. Furthermore, that dollar taken by the government cannot be spent or invested by investors in the productive private sector.

If Americans are to retain their religious liberty, they must also retain their financial liberty. They must reject all efforts to give government more control over the production and distribution of our nation’s wealth and resources.
