The Apostle Paul prayed that Christ might dwell in our hearts by faith. That is one of the great central truths of the Christian faith and of Scripture, and it is one of the great mysteries of experiential Christianity.
It is not enough that we preach Christ for you; we must also preach Christ in you. Christ for you is the basis of our justification; Christ in you is the basis of our regeneration and sanctification. Both are essential: Christ at Calvary and Christ in the chamber of our own souls.
There are some who claim to know Christ, but He is only in their heads. They have attend church, and know a great deal of theology and Scripture. They have Christ on their lips, but He does not dwell in their hearts.
The presence and the indwelling of Christ in the human heart is a reality. Those who deny the deity of Christ and believe that Jesus was merely an historical man would also deny that He can dwell in the human heart. But if you believe that Jesus Christ is the incarnation of the living, the infinite, the eternal God, then He can and does dwell in the hearts of all those who trust in Him.
Does He dwell in your heart today?
